The Institute for Applied Surfactant Research consists of seven University of Oklahoma faculty members well-known for their research on the properties and applications of surfactants. These faculty, who are members of the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, Mewbourne School of Petroleum & Geological Engineering (MPGE) and the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science, have for many years performed research with surfactants in such diverse fields as detergent formulation, environmental remediation, bioseparations, microelectronics, enhanced oil recovery, dispersant stabilization and drug delivery systems. This productive group of faculty has made IASR the premier institute dedicated to surfactant research in the world. One indication of this reputation is the selection of the University of Oklahoma to host the 65th Annual American Chemical Society's Colloid and Surface Science Symposium in 1991.

In these web pages, we present IASR's research activities, many relating to the study and application of systems in which surfactant aggregates play an essential role. The basic and applied research under the auspices of IASR is useful in solving many problems. Indeed, one of the strengths of the Institute is the capability to apply new knowledge and technological innovations in developing processes and techniques of importance in industry.
