Reaching Out To Industry
Networking and relationship building is often the key to accomplishing our goals. One of my key responsibilities is to develop recruitment relationships with companies that typically hire chemical engineers – especially those in the growing biotech industry. It’s vital for companies to realize that they have a terrific resource for filling their workforce needs at OU. As the baby boomers approach retirement, companies will need to find additional sources for replacing those valued team members. By working with universities, employers have access to some of the brightest and most promising candidates to fill their vacancies.
While the University’s Career Services offers recruitment assistance, many employers prefer to have a liaison within specific departments of a university. That’s where I come in. I’m able to provide assistance in quickly finding qualified, interested candidates for employers needing to recruit chemical engineers for jobs or internships. CBME students and alumni are sent job postings via email as they are received from employers. Specific groups are targeted depending on the requirements of the job. It’s a simple and effective way to reach your desired audience.
We encourage employers to get involved in activities on campus to build student awareness of their company. OU offers a variety of opportunities for businesses to connect with our students. Within the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, companies are able to conduct informational meetings for students, speak at monthly AICHE student chapter meetings, lead field trips to their facilities within the state, or sponsor a variety of engineering events to name just a few activities. You might also want to sponsor student research for your company – the possibilities are endless!
Targeted Job & Internship Information for Students and Alumni
The CBME students and alumni have a staff person dedicated to helping them discover job and internship opportunities within their chosen industry. Over the course of the semester, a variety of information is sent out via email regarding current jobs & internships, career fair dates, company sponsored events as well as educational materials and resource links for conducting your job search. Information is the key, and it’s my job to get it to you in a timely manner. Feel free to drop by my office or send an email if you would like individual assistance.
